Rules and Entry Details
The intent of this competition is
- to honour the memory of amateur photographer, Paul Wade-Brown.
- to encourage local photographers
- to celebrate Island Bay's beauty and character.
Judging Criteria
All entries will be judged on overall impact, which may include
- technical image quality (lighting, exposure, and focus)
- difficulty
- composition
- depiction of Island Bay's special character.
2010 Judges
The judges for this year are:
- Joe Bleakley - Production designer
- Tim Jordan - Web developer
- William Main - Author on Photographic History (tbc)
- Steve Unwin - Photographer
- Celia Wade-Brown - Paul's daughter and Wellington City Councillor
Prizes
There will be a $50 prize for the winner in each age group. There may be additional prizes.
- Second, third and fourth places may be awarded.
- Finalists will be notified by email or phone before the end of the 18th February.
- Prizes will be presented at 5 on Saturday 20th February 2010, venue: The Empire Cinema Cafe, 214 The Parade, Island Bay.
- The judges' decision is final.
Copyrights
- All copyrights will be retained by the entrant and recognition will be given to the photographer.
- All entries must be free from claims and rights of third parties.
- In submitting any entry, the entrant grants Island Bay Festival the right to use such photographs in printed, slide show, and webpage formats for non-profit purposes.
- By submitting your photograph to Island Bay Festival you agree to your name being published in relation to your photograph online and in all media.
- If your photograph features any recognisable person or people, written permission should be obtained from that person or group, for the image to be entered in the competition and to be published online and in all media as required.
Eligibility
- The competition is open to all photographers, amateur and professional.
- Photographs must have been taken by the entrant.
- Photographs must have been taken in the last year i.e. between 16th February 2009 and 15th February 2010.
- Images must have been taken in Island Bay or the Tapu Te Ranga Marine Reserve
- Only Digital Entries are accepted. No prints.
- Island Bay Festival Committee members and Photo Competition judges and their immediate family are ineligible to enter.
- This competition has two age categories, under 16s and adults. For the under 16 category, entrants must be aged 15 or younger on the closing date of the competition.
- Up to three entries may be made by any one entrant.
Categories
There are no subject categories for the competition - we suggest considering Nature - land or marine, People, Built character or any other aspects of life in Island Bay.
Unacceptable photos
Inappropriate, offensive photos will not be accepted. The judges' decision is final.
Entries

Each image file should include
- title_your name in its filename. example: "Oku_St_Reserve_JSmith.jpg"
- date of birth in the email if under 16 (ddmmyy)
- telephone number
- short description of each image - maximum 50 words per image
- image files should be sent as attachments and must be a .jpg
- JPEG file should have the highest quality setting where compression is kept to a minimum.
- The preferred image dimension for digital entries is 800 x 600 pixels (SVGA), however entries may be submitted where the long dimension is no more than 1200 pixels.
- All entries must be received by 5pm Monday February 15th 2010
- Entry is free
