Take Care of the Island Bay dunes

When: Sat 20 Feb Start: 9.30 am - End: 11:30 am Where: For a number of years, the Island Bay Coast Care Group have been planting sandbinding plants at the Island Bay dune and removing weeds. During the care morning, we will explain how dunes can help protect the beach, you will learn what the weeds are and what the native plants are in a dune environment, what is the best way to weed and plant at the dune. Planting and weeding is very important as it helps reduce erosion, trap windblown sand and rebuild a natural habitat for native species while creating a sheltered beach for people to enjoy.
