The festival parade is a spectacle of colour and family fun!
Children love the walk from the shops to the park, waving at the onlookers who line the parade. Bikes abound as the mode of transport - many of them decorated as part of the "dressing of the bikes" competition. Join in - dress up, wave a flag (provided), ride a bike, walk a dog. Come and be part of this vivacious tradition in ot's 26th year.
Assemble at 2.00 pm on The Parade between Avon and Tamar streets facing South for a 2.30pm take off to Shorland Park. The Parade has been a feature of the Island Bay Festival for 25 years, so lets celebrate in style as we carry on this grand tradition.
The organizers take great pride in ensuring this event is really safe for all. A great way to showcase your place in our wonderful community. Our hope is that all people, organizations and businesses in the bay are represented in some way or other. There are many ways. It could be as simple as walking in the parade, possibly in costume (eg. an ethnic costume, or one that reflects your job eg: a bakers outfit for a baker). Maybe with a flag or banner, or even a float. If you would like to talk about ideas on what you might do, don't hesitate to call Sarah. If you wish to participate, contact SaraH to receive details (?), or assemble at 1.45pm on Sat 16th at the corner of Avon St and The Parade, for a 2.30 start.
